• Not responding to name by 12 months
• No pointing or showing objects by 14 months
• No two-word spontaneous phrases by 24 months
• Loss of previously acquired language at any age
• Lack of eye contact or social smiling
• Strong preference for sameness; distress at changes
• Unusual sensory responses (covering ears, avoiding certain textures)
• Repetitive movements (hand flapping, rocking, spinning)

Where Functional Medicine Adds Value

Autism is not caused by nutritional deficiency — but co-existing medical conditions are common and impair development if unaddressed:
